CHAM'LINES #6 - "The Signal Couloir"

Once again, the talented young freerider Léo Slemmet, who won the prestigious Freeride World Qualifier “Nendaz Freeride” last weekend, is my ski companion in my sixth CHAM’LINES adventure. After ice and granite it is time for some trees!

For a change the weather is not perfect the day of filming for CHAM’LINES, so naturally we head towards Montenvers and the Signal couloir. A nice line in the forest and visibility guaranteed even a flat light day. The couloir is well known and much appreciated by the locals.

We take the train to Montenvers and put on the skins to tour up to “Signal” at 2204 metres. A short hour later we take the skins off and are ready to take on the run, a 30 to 40° degrees line winding down 1200 vertical metres through the trees. As it faces northwest, we know the conditions will be excellent. And they sure are! To resume this amazing day; a great natural and playful terrain, 5 minutes of riding down between the trees, including a little jump over the avalanche barriers at mid-run… With easy access from start to finish, you end up directly at the foot of Planards, in the heart of Chamonix.

The Signal couloir is just as great as some of the more known runs in the Chamonix valley. Easy to access and always in good condition, it is a safe bet!

I am now focusing entirely on the Xtreme de Verbier, Freeride World Tour’s final and most prestigious event, scheduled for 22 March. I’m very keen to once again take on the legendary “Bec de Rosses”, and aim to achieve a good result.
