This week I embark on a new adventure with my friend Douds Charlet, snowboard freeride world champion and mountain guide. The excellent conditions in the Chamonix valley at the moment, is providing a lot of interesting possibilities for riding lines. If the opportunity arises, the biggest quest for most freeriders is unquestionably to open up a new line, never skied.    | According to our sources, the couloir we have been looking at has never been ridden yet and therefor does not have a name. It is located on the Chardonnet glacier. A beautiful line between ice and granite. To reach the couloir from the top of the Grands Montets lift area we ski down to the Argentière glacier and traverse it. Once on the other side we skin up the Chardonnet glacier. The glacial environment obliges us to be cautious, to the limit that we even ski a part of the glacier roped up. After a two hours’ approach and some technical rope work, we are at the entrance of the couloir. Between ice and granite we ride 450 vertical metres to the Argentière glacier in perfect snow and blue bird skies. A great moment and a real treat! Accessing the entrance of the couloir is not so obvious and needs some technical rope manoeuvres, but once there, it’s pure pleasure! As most good things you earn your turns… And the couloir definitely deserves to be put on the freeride map! See you next time, on Friday, March 21st!
